Your Muscles Are Not Always the Problem

When people book a sports massage, they usually tell me the same thing.
"My hamstrings are tight."
"My shoulders feel stiff."
"My neck is constantly sore."
Most people naturally assume that the muscle itself is the problem. Surprisingly, that is not always true.
As a specialist and therapist at Mark the Masseur Glasgow, I have learned that pain and stiffness often come from the way different tissues work together rather than from one individual muscle.
One of the most fascinating structures in the body is the fascia. It is a continuous layer of connective tissue that surrounds muscles, tendons, nerves and organs. For many years it received very little attention, but today researchers recognise that fascia contains a large number of sensory nerve endings and plays an important role in movement and body awareness. Scientists are still learning exactly how important it is, but its role in musculoskeletal function is becoming increasingly recognised.
This explains why pain is not always located where the real restriction exists.
A client may come to me complaining about neck pain, yet the movement of the shoulder, upper back or chest may be contributing far more than the neck itself.
Another client may believe their hamstrings are extremely tight, when in reality the hips, glutes or lower back are limiting movement.
This is why I never simply massage the area that hurts.
At Mark the Masseur Glasgow, every sports massage begins with observation. I look at how you move, how your body compensates, where tissues are overloaded and where movement has become restricted.
Only then do I decide which techniques will produce the best result.
Over the years I have developed my own treatment style by combining sports massage, therapeutic massage, deep tissue techniques, medical soft tissue principles and classical massage. Every client receives an individual treatment because every body tells a different story.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is waiting until pain becomes unbearable.
The body rarely develops pain overnight. Small restrictions slowly build over weeks, months or even years. Reduced movement leads to compensation. Compensation leads to overload. Eventually pain appears.
Sports massage is not simply about treating pain.
It is about improving movement before pain becomes a problem.
Many of my clients are surprised that after a treatment they do not just feel looser. They often feel lighter, move more freely and even notice improvements in posture and balance.
That is because effective massage is not only about muscles. It is about helping the entire body work together more efficiently.
Whether you spend your day sitting at a desk, lifting heavy materials on a building site, running marathons or training in the gym, your body develops its own movement habits. Some are helpful. Others create unnecessary tension.
My role as a specialist is to identify those patterns and restore natural movement.
That is why every session at Mark the Masseur Glasgow is different.
There is no routine.
There is no standard sequence.
There is only the treatment your body needs on that particular day.
If you are looking for professional sports massage in Glasgow, whether you are dealing with stiffness, old injuries, muscle fatigue or simply want your body to perform at its best, you deserve treatment based on experience, knowledge and individual assessment.
Your massage should be too.

I booked after reading the Google reviews, and I'm so glad I did. The treatment was excellent from start to finish. Mark was professional, welcoming, and made me feel completely at ease. My shoulders and back haven't felt this good in months. I'll definitely be coming back.
